awoke before the alarm
chiming of a different sort
or more of a cacophony
through the window
over the fan
birds of some feather
singing together
sunrise salutations
as first light barely grazed
techmeculla park peaks
palm frawns still
after a restless night
thrashing about
in gusts
old dust
from the day
pool as a pond
silent in scum
not a filter or motor
about with a hum
even as i pushed my ears
stared and inched towards falling in
the leaves only barely swirled
afloat in aquamarine bath
their crunch softened
stems no longer a spine
even my steps had no voice
certainly no rhythm
as trying to navigate an edge in
early morn
concrete weathered
bruised
from whipping sands worn
smooth as old stone
bare feet cannot fluster
nor muster a creak
do they only sing
before the sear?
rejoicing in a breath
before such same space
burns
brutalizes
asphalt as an oven
radiator air
a song in silence
one for no one
until lawnmowers
hush their words
maybe but one or two
finishing their morning tale
dispersing
beginning
