the rain poured
steadily
off the corner
of the roof
if only my eyes
could let go
like that
cheeks and lids
so tense and sore
trying to continue
through the day
as nothing
more
than a concrete wall
the sound
is unsteady
the drops
of all sizes
collecting where
the sidewalk
lays low
not as the clear
icy streams
we once forged
to go play
by a dark brown
in the deep shade
perhaps a flat gray
